Here’s a little background on our primary consultants:
David Stern, MD, CPC
Dr. Stern serves as CEO of both Urgent Care Consultants and Practice Velocity, LLC, which provides software solutions for more than 1,200 urgent care clinics in all 50 states, including computer tablet-based diagnostic record systems, specialized billing systems, practice management software and a patented record template system. Dr. Stern graduated magna cum laude from Houghton College, earned a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and completed a residency in internal medicine at the Pennsylvania State University Hospital. After his residency, he was appointed Chief Resident, and as Instructor of Internal Medicine. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Stern has been listed three times in Castle-Connolly’s Best Physicians in America. He was given the Lifetime Membership Award from the Urgent Care Association of America.
VP of Operations
Bonnie brings decades of experience to the Urgent Care Consultants team. Prior to joining UCC, she worked for United Technologies Aerospace Systems in Rockford, IL as the Workman’s Compensation Claims Coordinator. She managed claims from injured employees by mediating between employees, physicians, and insurance companies. She also worked for 20 years as the Director of Clinical Services at Physician’s Immediate Care in Northern Illinois. Bonnie spent the majority of her nursing experience in urgent care and occupational health. She is certified to instruct evidential breath testing and urine drug screening; and she is certified to complete pulmonary function testing and occupational audiology testing.
Heather has 15 years of experience in client services and support. She joined the UCC team in 2013 and has assisted with more than 40 urgent care startups, working closely with the executive leadership and preferred vendors to ensure their success. Heather focuses on site feasibility, financial pro forma and business plan preparation for UCC clients.
Alan Ayers, MBA
Alan Ayers brings over 10 years’ experience in strategic planning, business development, clinical operations, sales/marketing and real estate for urgent care, occupational medicine, and primary care facilities of all sizes. As a former Board Director for the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) and as Practice Management Editor for The Journal of Urgent Care Medicine, he has contributed over 350 original articles and presentations and is considered an industry thought leader. In 2014, The Ambulatory M&A Advisor honored Ayers as one of Urgent Care’s “Top 15 Influencers.” Prior to serving as Chief Operating Officer of a hospital-affiliated urgent care network, Ayers was a consultant to the retail and consumer packaged goods industries. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina before earning his MBA from the University of Mississippi, and his Masters of Accounting from The Ohio State University, where he graduated first in his class.
Nate Roys brings experience in financial diagnostics and projections, urgent care industry real estate planning and analysis, statistical analysis, and business plan writing to the UCC consulting team. Nate started with UCC in 2014 when he generated a sophisticated algorithm to predict patient volume for potential urgent care clinic locations, given demographics, competition, and many related factors that strongly correlate with urgent care success. Since then, he has assisted the accounting department in process-automation and various small projects as needed; he also led the development of UCC’s pro forma financial model, and uses it to determine urgent care project feasibility, both for startups and existing operations. Nate works closely with clients to determine the capital structure needed to ensure a profitable venture, including the cash investment required to sustain operations until they generate positive cash-flows.
With more than 17 years of medical billing experience, Monica is a certified professional coder and a committed leader to a team of more than 150 urgent care billing specialists. She has also taught classes on urgent care billing at Urgent Care Association of America national conferences and Decision Health seminars. Her team is dedicated to understanding the detailed nuances of urgent care billing and providing both Physicians Immediate Care and franchisees the same quality billing services.
